School’s Out for Summer!

So today’s the day schools in Lincolnshire break up for their summer holidays! Make the most of the weather and spend a day (or two) with us at the Natural World Centre!

Situated in the beautiful Whisby Nature Park it’s the ideal place to enjoy the great outdoors. Here’s what you can get up to this summer:

Go for a walk

Walking at Whisby

Whisby Nature Park is a beautiful landscape near Lincoln, full of wildlife, walks and trails. This extensive network of paths, waymarked trails of varying lengths and birdwatching hides have been designed to allow visitors to see and enjoy the wildlife associated with the wide variety of habitats. You can also enjoy our Summer Trail which has activities for kids to do while you walk around the park. These are free and can be picked up from reception.

Visit the Barn

The Barn

The Barn is located just past the centre as you enter the park. It is an ideal spot for birdwatching as well as finding out about the adbundance of wildlife found on the park. Volunteers from the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust are on hand most days to answer any questions and share their knowledge so pop in and say hello!

Enjoy lunch in the Boardwalk Bistro

Home cooked meals

Open everyday from 10am, the Boardwalk Bistro offers a range of menu options, from light bites to home cooked meals. There’s also a children’s menu including Go Wild Lunch Bags which includes a sandwhich, snack and drink for only £4.50. You’ll also get a copy of the Summer Trail and information on birds.

N.B. hot food is available until 3.30pm and snacks until 4pm.

Get Crafty with Summer Workshops

Craft Activities

Enjoy a programme of craft activities ideal for children aged 4 years+. Let your imagination run wild with Take Part in Art or make your own clay bowl and coaster, glass lantern or have fun in a paint and print session. For more information visit our children’s activities and workshop page.

Explore Little Darter’s Wildlife Adventure

Little Darters

Relaese your inner explorer! Packed full of exciting tunnels, exploration towers and sand pits; you can watch wildlife in action, dig for fossils or discover what lives underground in the cave! Older kids can try their hand at the mini assault course which features a ramp and rope ascent, balance rope traverse and climbing net.

Little Darter’s Kiosk will be open from Saturday 21 July every day (weather dependant) during the summer serving appetising snacks, drinks and ice creams.

Stay and Play whatever the weather

Otter’s Reach indoor Adventure is an all-weather experience and an educational resource for younger visitors aged 3 and upwards to a maximum height of 1.3m. Make the most of your journey through Whisby
– from its origins as Whisby Pits to the attraction and wildlife haven it is today. The area allows younger visitors to explore and experience the park’s history through imaginative play and includes a gravel plant with hands on features, bullrush stilt posts, spiders web climb, raptors’ nest and more.

Otter’s Cafe is also open every day serving hot and cold drinks and snacks allowing you to sit back and relax as you watch your children play.
